How the FBPA changed medical practice management

We recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the effective date of the Fair Business Practices Act (FBPA). While there have been a number of significant legislative accomplishments in the practice of medicine over the years, it is hard to understate the value of the FBPA to the financial management and business operations of medical practices in Virginia. VMGMA 2009 Active Member Survey results

The first annual Active Membership Survey was conducted in October, 2009. The responses received were used to help formulate the 2010 goals of the organization. We would like to thank those who participated and encourage everyone to participate in the 2010 survey in October. [Continued]


'Meaningful use' update

Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in February, 2009. The healthcare IT component of the Bill is the HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) Act, which appropriates $23 billion dollars to encourage healthcare organizations to adopt and effectively utilize Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and establish health information exchange networks at a regional level. Frequently asked questions about the elimination of CMS Consultation Codes

1. No, CMS eliminated the use of consultation services as of January 1, 2010 for Medicare Part B patients.

2. For visits which were office/outpatient consults in 2009, practices should bill as new or established patient office/outpatient visits. [Continued]
