MSV and VTLA achieve malpractice cap agreement

We are pleased to announce that the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA) have achieved a malpractice cap agreement. Physicians who are members of MSV and staff at MSV, including the executive director Rufus Phillips, have worked long hours to reach an agreement with VTLA to maintain an appropriate malpractice cap. We as practice executives make a commitment to engage in programs of self-assessment and continuous learning through webinars and conferences, and to actively work toward our college status of Nominee, Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) or Fellow (FACMPE). [Continued]

On Jan. 13, the Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Medical Group Management Association will host special guest speaker Rob Tennant, who will present a session entitled "2011 Federal Legislative Update and Regulatory HIT."  [Continued]


Online doctor visits a reality: Virginia mandates payment for telemedicine services

Beginning Jan. 1, 2011, Virginia will require insurers to pay for telemedicine services, with some caveats. The new law, codified at Virginia Code §38.2-3418.16, applies to insurers and HMOs that issue or reissue plans on or after Jan. 1, when any policy or plan term is changed, or when the premiums change.  [Continued]

with hospitals

The recent resurgence of hospital acquisitions of physician practices has been driven, in large measure, by hospitals' desire to gain a competitive edge and referral stream by employing physicians and to position themselves to respond favorably to health reform.  [Continued]
