According to Virginia law, what tasks are physicians allowed to delegate to unlicensed professionals? This question arises frequently in the delivery settings of all medical specialties. The following excerpt from the Virginia Medical Practice Act, Chapter 29 of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia, provides a starting point for answering this question ... Have you ever had a job you hated? One of mine was at a hospital in Overland Park, Kan., that to this day I lovingly call the Pit of Despair. During my 10 months as Chief Financial Officer there, the Human Resources Director would walk past my office every morning and stick her head in to say, “I’m taking the walk of death.” This was ironic since we were working in a hospital, after all. What an absolutely horrible place.
