New sports institute opens in Richmond
Advanced Orthopaedics has opened the Sports Performance & Wellness Institute in Richmond. This one-of-a-kind facility is the latest addition to Advanced Orthopaedics’ state-of-the-art campus on Shrader Road. It is the final stage of a comprehensive approach to how these doctors practice medicine that includes prevention as well as intervention.
Former Olympian and world-renowned strength coach Bob Blanton is heading up the program at the institute. Bob has trained hundreds of athletes, including Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers; Bryson Spinner of the Washington Redskins; and Kyle Jolly of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Bob’s experience is not limited to pro athletes; he also trains middle school, high school and college athletes – and even weekend warriors – to achieve maximum performance and avoid injury. Also offered to the community at the institute is a science-based, eight-week therapeutic lifestyle-change program that helps reduce body mass, lower stress levels and fight chronic disease.

In business since the mid-1970s, Advanced Orthopaedics is no stranger to opening one-of-a-kind facilities. In 2003, it opened the first fully accredited practice and surgical suite in the Richmond market, and three years ago, it was the first orthopedic practice in Virginia to open Ortho On-Call, a walk-in, urgent-care center dedicated to bone and joint injuries. Ortho On-Call has now grown to two locations, one on the south side and one in the west end, with daily hours at both locations.

Richmond Allergy & Asthma Specialists celebrated Halloween this year with a costume contest and “guess the number of candy corns in the jar” contest. All their patients had a great time looking at the decorations and costumes. One lucky patient even won a $25 gift certificate for the guessing game. It was a great team building day and everyone had loads of fun.
